Blackburn boss Gary Bowyer quiet on Lee Williamson's red card

Gary Bowyer kept his counsel on the refereeing decision which could see Blackburn midfielder Lee Williamson suspended for the start of the season.

The midfielder was dismissed by Darren Handley on the stroke of half-time in Rovers' 1-1 draw with Bury for a wild lunge into Ryan Lowe's thigh in front of the dugouts.

Bowyer appeared livid at the time but refrained from commenting after the game, with Rovers now facing an anxious wait to see if the referee's report will lead to a ban.

Blackburn have just one friendly game remaining against Stoke this Sunday so a lengthy ban could see Williamson miss next Friday's season opener with Cardiff.

"I thought the game was a great workout for us. In the first 45 minutes we played some cracking stuff and kept the ball particularly well," said Bowyer.

"I'm not prepared in pre-season to talk about a refereeing decision. I've got no idea whether he will face a ban, the game's just finished."

Lowe needed lengthy treatment following Williamson's challenge but returned for the second half and saw strike partner Daniel Nardiello nod home Chris Hussey's free-kick in the 71st minute.

However, the Shakers were denied a victory against the Sky Bet Championship side as Jordan Rhodes converted a late penalty following Jim McNulty's foul on the lively Josh King.

"I think you saw the spirit and the character of the lads when we were down to 10 men," added Bowyer.

"I thought we did ever so well. Their goal is offside but then to come back and get the penalty, there were some mammoth efforts from our lads so we're pleased with that."
