Contract news: Youngsters offered new deals at Blackpool

Barry Ferguson believes Blackpool are producing youngsters of real potential - with three of them offered new contracts.

Harrison McGahey, Mark Waddington and Connor Hunt have all had fresh terms put to them at Bloomfield Road.

Home-grown talents are vital to the Seasiders as they help to keep recruitment costs down and generate vital funds from future sales.

Ferguson feels the current crop of academy graduates have what it takes to compete on the senior stage, and is delighted to see Blackpool putting their faith in youth.

He said in the Gazette: "I spoke to Richie (Kyle, youth team boss) about his squad.

"I don't know the sort of terms they've been offered and things, but we offered three new deals.

"Those three are boys we rate highly.

"I see them all as big players for the future of this club."

Teenage defender McGahey is being tipped to break into the first team before the end of the season, and Ferguson admits he would be prepared to throw the 18-year-old into Sky Bet Championship action against Burnley on Friday if needs be.

He added: "I would throw him in, 100 per cent.

"He's been ready for four or five weeks.

"Ideally, I'd have liked him to come in at a different stage - with us being safe.

"But if I have to use him, then he's ready and I wouldn't think twice about putting him in tomorrow night."
