Premier League: Nigel Pearson denies claims of weakened Leicester team

Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson has bristled at suggestions he may field a weakened team for Wednesday night's Sky Live game against Chelsea.

Leicester have climbed out of the relegation zone after four consecutive victories, but reports suggested Pearson could be prepared to rest key players for the visit of the champions-elect to the King Power Stadium.

But Pearson told Sky Sports News HQ: "My focus is Leicester City, we will always do what is best for us. But who knows what is out best side? I think I do and it might be different for this game than it was for the previous game and as it might be for the next game. That's the point.

"Chelsea are in the position they are in because of their results. It's good if other results go your way but you always have to look after your own results in the first place. I have never picked a side that does not have the integrity of any competition in mind and I think that that is the point.

Positive

"Results are more important than performances. It's been very satisfying to get four wins and it gives us a realistic chance. The only thing that matters is that we're out on the bottom three after 38 games. To do that we have to remain focused.

"There is still a lot of football to be played. Every game now has something riding on it. There's lots left to do. We want to try to win this next game. It will be hard against Chelsea but there's no reason not to look at it positively.

"Throughout the season our fans have remained positive, but in the last few games in particular, they have inspired us."

Striker David Nugent and full-back Jeffrey Schlupp picked up knocks in the 1-0 win at Burnley on Saturday but are still in contention to face Chelsea while goal-hero Jamie Vardy will be given a fitness check ahead of the game.
