Leicester captain Wes Morgan confident club can become Premier League stalwarts

Leicester skipper Wes Morgan is confident the Foxes can become an established Premier League club after their superb finish to the season.

Nigel Pearson’s side produced a dazzling late run of form, winning seven of their final nine games to secure their top-flight status and propel themselves from rock bottom to a final position of 14th.

Morgan says that run has given the squad the confidence to make further improvements next season and avoid becoming dragged into another relegation battle.

"We want to establish ourselves now and I think we can do that," Morgan said.

"We've shown what we can do this season and I think we're better than a good portion of the teams in this league.

"But it's one thing saying that, you have to go out and prove it.

"We don't want to be in a position we've found ourselves in this season and the ambition now is to start challenging and winning more games."

Only West Brom in 2005 and Sunderland in 2014 survived in the Premier League after being bottom at Christmas – a position held by Leicester after a dismal run which saw them collect just 10 points from 17 games.

"There has been a lot of ups and downs but in the last couple of months we've completed the mission, which was to survive in this league," Morgan said.

"We knew we could do it, it was just turning it around and showing people.

"It's good to prove everyone wrong really because a lot of people wrote us off a couple of months ago.

"It's an unbelievable feeling to stay up against all the odds and to get in the position we are now is quite an achievement."
